Children and Homeopathy

Earaches:

Can often be chronic or reoccuring in young children. Studies show that children who receive no antibiotics can recover just as quick as those who do.

Watch for high fevers, discharge from the ear, and neck pain to indicate further treatment.

Your homeopathic doctor, chiropractor, and acuputurist are good sources for treatments with out antibiotics.

 

Possible Remedies to consider:  Aconite, Belladonna,  Ferrum Phos, or Pulsatilla

 

Colic:   

Unexplained crying, or screaming  and cramping in the abdomen, often in infants from 1-6 months of age. Consider removing dairy from the mother diet, when breastfeeding, or switching to a non dairy based formula when formula feeding.

 Possible Remedies to consider: Cham, Mag Phos, Nux Vom, Pulsatilla, Nat Phos, or Lycopodium

 

Bed-wetting:

Can be a normal part of child development, your child is not ready to go a full night with our urinating.

This condition occurs in 30% of children at the age of 4, 10% at the age of 6, and drops to 1% by the age of 18. Effects more boys then girls.

Possible causes: delay in muturity of bladder control;  genetics – children with parents who also wet the bed beyond age five are at an increased risk for bedwetting;  

sleeping soundly – this may make children less aware of cues for the need to urinate.

This is an area that will most likely require a consultation with your homeopath if it is truely bothersome, most kids will out grow it on their own.

 

Possible remedies to consider: Belladonna Sepia, Pulsatilla, Ferrum phos, Cantharis, Phos

 

Chicken Pox:

Is a viral infection, starts anywhere from 7-21 days after exposure. It starts off with a few red spots or bumps, fever is common. The next day many more bumps will appear, and the first bumps will have turned into blisters. On the third day, more new bumps will appear, and the second-day bumps will start to blister. On day 4 the original blisters will start to crust over. Usually by day 5, no new bumps will appear, and more blisters will crust over. By day 7, most or all of the blisters will be crusted over. The fever can last for 5 days.

 

Treatment can include, cutting nails, oatmeal baths to soothe the itch, cool cloths

Don’t give aspirin to children because of the risk of Reye’s syndrome — a rare but potentially fatal disease

 

Possible Remedies to consider: Ant tart, Rhus tox, Kali mur, Pulsatilla, Aconite, Ar, Apis, Belladona, Sulphur

 

Mumps:

Mumps occurs most often in children ages two through twelve.

The symptoms and signs of mumps are:

  • Soreness or swelling of the parotid glands on one or both sides.
  • Discomfort may range from vague tenderness to obvious pain when opening the mouth or swallowing
  • Fever, usually lasting about two to three days
  • Sore muscles
  • Loss of appetite
  • Headache
  • Earache that is aggravated by chewin
  • In men and adolescent boys, swelling in one or both testes (often subsides within four days)
  • Aversion to light, lethargy, and a stiff neck (which may indicate meningitis)

Treatment includes keeping patient hydrated and measures used to keep fever and pain down,

both of these can be addressed with a homeopathic remedy.

 

Possible remedies to consider:  Apis, belladonna, Mercurius, Phytolacca, Pulsatilla

 

Influenza:

The flu is a respitory infection. Almost always hits between Nov – April

Symptoms include, fever, aches pains, chills, headache, fatigue or exhaustion, and some chest and cough complaints

 

Treatment includes keeping patient hydrated and measures used to keep fever and pain down,

both of these can be addressed with a homeopathic remedy.

Possible remedies to consider: Aconite, bell, bry, gels, rhust, allium cepa, influnzium, ipecac

 

Measles :

A viral infection, that occurs 7 to 14 days after exposure.

Symptoms include : high fever, cold, watering of the eyes, and a dry cough, diarrhea. A rash appears on the skin four days after the onset of these symptoms. This rash, which consists of small rounded spots with reddened skin in between, initially appears on the sides of the face and the neck, and then gradually spreads allover the body, appearing last on the extremities. Initially pink in colour, the spots grow darker as time passes.
